IGRT

IGRT Treatment

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) is an advanced radiation technique that uses real-time imaging during each treatment session to ensure precise tumor targeting. By capturing images immediately before or during radiation delivery, IGRT helps verify the exact position of the tumor and surrounding organs.

This technology is especially beneficial for tumors that may shift slightly due to breathing, digestion, or normal body movement. IGRT enhances treatment accuracy by allowing adjustments to be made before radiation is delivered, ensuring maximum effectiveness while protecting healthy tissues.

Conditions Commonly Treated

  • Prostate cancer
  • Head & neck cancers
  • Lung cancer
  • Abdominal and pelvic tumors
  • Spine tumors
  • Gynecological cancers

Key Advantages

  • Improved precision through real-time imaging
  • Reduced radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissues
  • Better management of tumor motion
  • Enhanced safety and treatment accuracy
  • Lower risk of side effects
  • Increased confidence in dose delivery

Treatment Planning & Procedure

The treatment begins with detailed imaging such as CT simulation and, when required, MRI or PET fusion to accurately define the tumor location. A customized radiation plan is developed using advanced planning systems.

Before each session, imaging tools such as onboard CT scans or X-ray imaging are used to confirm precise patient positioning. Adjustments are made if necessary to ensure accurate radiation delivery. This daily verification process significantly enhances treatment safety and effectiveness.

IGRT represents a major advancement in modern radiation oncology, combining imaging technology with precision therapy to provide safer, more accurate, and highly effective cancer treatment.
